My research program is focused on the fields of obesity, insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. We employ three analytical approaches to further our studies. 1) Systems biology – the integration of multi-tissue, multi-species biological data to identify which and how physiological pathways that are altered in disease and therapeutic intervention. 2) Analysis of single genes that affect insulin sensitivity and/or obesity in rodent models. 3) Analysis of gene expression and signal transduction related to metabolic regulation. My goals are to characterize genes and metabolites that are regulators and/or biomarkers of insulin resistance and identify those that can be used as novel therapeutic targets or diagnostic tools.
