History
The Division of Endocrinology was started by Dr. Len Garren and the Division of Metabolic Disease was started by Dr. Daniel Steinberg after the opening of the UCSD Medical School in 1968. Leadership of the Division of Endocrinology passed to Dr. Gordon Gill in 1971. The Division of Metabolic Disease merged with the Division of Endocrinology in 1985 to become the current joint Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism under Dr. Jerry Olefsky. Dr. Nai-Wen Chi joined Dr. Webster as Clinical Co-Chief in 2012, then was replaced by Dr. Kristen Kulasa in 2017 upon Dr. Chi's untimely passing.
