Academic Track

UCSD Endocrinology Fellowship has the option for a dedicated Academic Track.  This program is geared towards those interested in a career in academic medicine as a clinician educator or physician scientist.  The program offers protected time for fellows to develop their skills as a clinical educator or in clinical, translational, or basic science research in order to prepare them for next steps in development of a career with an academic focus.

Year 1 - 92% Clinical/8% Academic/Research (identical to clinical track)

Year 2 - 25% Clinical/75% Academic/Research

Optional Year 3 - 25% Clinical/75% Academic/Research

* If you are interested in applying for the academic track, please identify your interest during the interview day.  You can apply both to the Academic Track and Traditional Track in ERAS.  Fellows who do not match directly into the Academic Track may have the option to switch into this track after matching into the traditional fellowship.

A word from prior fellows on the Academic Track:

The Academic Track enabled me to freely pursue my professional interests in medical education and quality improvement following my fellowship training. During my Academic Track year o the T32 Training Grant, I completed a formal medical education course via the Clinical Teaching Stanford Faculty Development Program and have found some of the core principles from the course invaluable to how I now teach students and trainees. Additionally, I initiated several quality improvement project interventions within both the endocrine division and in collaboration with other disciplines, which has not only improved the quality of endocrine care at UCSD Health but also propelled my academic career as a clinical faculty at the university.
